We're Home!!

Well the dust has settled somewhat so I thought I should write another blog entry.

The move out of Kenora went pretty well.  My Mom and Phil helped us alot and Mark moved a truckload for us too.  Their help was really appreciated.  Most of our stuff is in storage and will stay there until we find ourselves a place to live.  That's not been the easiest thing to do in Red Lake given our budget but we're looking!!  Thankfully, staying at my Mom's isn't an issue and they're not in a rush for us to move out.  We could be there awhile!!!  Ahhh.. if only I had a crystal ball!!

We waited for Shayne to finish school before we moved and boy did he finish with a bang.   STRAIGHT A's!!!  He did very well this this year and I'm so proud of him.  He also did well with his counselling sessions and I'm glad that we were able to see a counsellor.  She helped give me some perspective and Shayne some insight as to living and coping with an alcoholic's behaviour.  He's been living with his dad since we moved back and he's liking that.  Darren enrolled him in golf camp and baseball so Shayne's been a busy boy.

As for my other son... Mac is teething like crazy.  His sixth tooth dropped on July 3rd and I'm hoping that he won't be getting more any time soon.  He's already taken some skin off my shoulder and left a nice imprint on my arm.  He doesn't yet understand that he can be gentle.  I cringe at the thought that he'll bite me when breastfeeding and altho he's scathed me, I know it could be worse!!    We've been introducing him to meats, vegetables and fruits but he's not too interested.  Trust me when I say that I wanna wean him soon!!  He's crawling around like a pro and has been pulling himself up for some time now.  He's still working on balance... he falls over because he's head heavy so he's already got some bumps.  I got the same walker that Shayne used as a baby and Mac is scooting around -- it's so funny to watch him.  Phil rigged up his jolly jumper and he's a maniac in that thing.  I'll have to take some footage of that cuz it's hard to describe how high he goes and that he's starting to swing.  The only downside to my little boy is that he isn't sleeping thru the night yet.  He'll nap ok on his own but at night, the only way I can get him to stay slumbering is to let him sleep with my nipple in his mouth.  I'm his human soother.  I wish he woulda taken to the plastic kind as a newborn.  He'll gnaw on one now especially since he sees Auna with hers.

This lack of sleep thing is not fun but it can't last forever, right??  I've been spending my time trying to catch up on sleep, being with Mac, doing regular household stuff and have been looking after Auna for a few hours while Marney goes to work.  She's doing a short contract and goes into the office a coupla times a week.  I love that I'm getting to spend time with my newest neice.  I'm hoping that Mac will be motivated by her love of eating and maybe his on-the-go, non-stop crawling, pulling, standing, grabbing (oh he's a machine!!) physical drive will motivate her to crawling. I've been able to spend time with some friends and catch up on their going's on.  It's so nice to be home!!

Jeremy is really enjoying his new job.  He likes that his boss works hard and has the same work ethic that he has.  His birthday is coming up on the 17th... I'm trying to think of something really special to do.  Marney offered to look after Pumpkin so we can do our own thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing my cousin Saga and her family (hubby Derek, daughters Sinead and Hannah... Amelia isn't coming), her sister Sarah, friends Belinda, Kelly & Marianne who'll be here for Norseman Days.  Jeremy's dad, Murray, his wife Marilyn and neice Courtney are coming to visit.  It will be their first time meeting Mac.  I hope the weather will be nice over the next few weeks.

At some point over the summer, Uncle Doug is coming and we're hoping to do Mac and Auna's naming ceremony when he's here.  I've asked my dear friends Rhonda and Shy-Anne to be Mac's sponsors (a.k.a. godmother).  I plan on asking Marney too.  So in preparation, I have to start making things for the giveaway.  I'm looking forward to finding out Mac's Anishinabe name.  Then I'll have to get it tatooed on me somewhere.  I did it for Shayne so I'll do it for Mac too.

Moving Day

It's amazing how quickly things can change!!  Johnny gave Jeremy a lead on a job and presto-chango Jeremy started work right after the long weekend.  So he's staying with my mom until we can find a place to rent.  Shayne's so excited about moving back to Red Lake and so I am.  I'll be so glad to be able to see Marney, Rhonda, Corinne, Donna and their kids, Shy-Anne, Mikey and my mom of course.  I'll get to a part of everyone's daily lives which is what I've been missing.

So with this move comes the tediousness of organizing, packing and hauling of all our crap.  I'll be relieved once that's over and done with.

May Days

It's crazy how quickly the time goes.  I'm forever feeling like I've got nearly nothing accomplished.

We haven't spent much time outdoors but it's definitely nicer.  The buds are out and the grass is getting green.  I'm glad we've lost that spring grayness.

Mackenzie is doing well.  He weighs in at nearly 20 lbs.  He's wearing size 12 months in clothes -- that's so crazy!!  He has graduated to his "big boy" carseat which is a bit of a drag cuz now I don't have a handy chair for him to sit in while I'm shopping.. he doesn't yet know how to sit upright unsupported so we gotta time things for when Jeremy is home or Shayne can help me.  He was knawing on my bagel the other night so I'm thinking he wants to have big people food.  Jeremy gave him a wee bit of his hamburger but that made him barf.  Poor baby!!   So we're going with the baby oatmeal.... it's a safer bet!

Shayne is doing pretty well.  He had a great time on his 10th birthday (May 9). We took him and 4 four friends out for dinner and then glo-bowling.  His birthday was on a Wednesday this year so it wasn't a late night. I posted some video clips on my other site... go see!!  http://www.myspace.com/kaaren1972

He still sees a counsellor and we've discussed that over the next few sessions, the topic will be about dealing with alcoholism.  I'm glad he'll be getting this information from someone else so it won't look like I'm bashing his dad -- and trust me, I want to!!

Jeremy's working longer now that daylight hours are aplenty.  I miss him and it seems like we barely see him cuz he gets home so late and has to be in bed early cuz he gets up at 5.30.  Rainy days are a godsend cuz it means he gets to stay home.

We've come to Red Lake for the weekend... Sarah's 9th birthday party was last night and her actual birthday is today.  Alysha's birthday is on Monday but we're getting together for cake on Sunday.  And then the Survivor finale is on Sunday night so we won't be heading back to Kenora til Monday morn.  A busy weekend!!!!

Oh.. I almost forgot to mention that Auna's sprouted her second tooth.  I wish I could see her everyday.. she still makes strange with me cuz she doesn't see me enough.  Mac made strange with my mom and brother Michael too.  I wish we lived here.... maybe one day!!

gotta go see about a crying baby....

Mac's SECOND tooth is here!!

I guess the floodgates have opened!!!!  Mac's second tooth started showing Easter weekend.
It was out on the 11th.  Now he has two razor sharp little teeth and he seems to want to gnaw on everything.

We went into the city last weekend and went shopping for a stroller, exersaucer and clothes.  We found everything we were looking for and then some.

It's getting so nice out and I'm looking forward to going on more walks with Mac, Shayne and Jeremy.

Mac's first TOOTH is here!!

Before I reveal how we found Mac's tooth, lemme catch up on what's happened since my last blog...

I took Mac to see Dr. Parker and he inspected Mac's ribs and told me that altho they do stick out somewhat, they are still perfectly normal.  What a relief!!

I passed both the written (scored a perfect 100%) and the practical (scored a humble 94%) tests for the Firearms Safety Course.  I filled out the paperwork and sent it away.  Assuming there are no problems, I should get a P.A.L. card.  Jeremy bought me a semi-auto 30-odd-6 as a grad present.

On Tuesday night, Jeremy took Mac to bed and yelled for me about 15 minutes later.  Fearing something awful, I ran to our room.  Jeremy was grinning like a Cheshire cat and told me to look in Mac's mouth.  There was the white gleam of a tooth!!  He won't be 4 months til the 14th!!  I'm glad it's on the bottom.... otherwise I'd wean him sooner than planned.     I do not wanna get bitten!!!

We've come to Red Lake for Easter weekend and hoping to out to Trout Lake for a few days.

     Happy Easter!!

March 16

an update

Jeremy didn't get any time off work so Shayne, Mac and I came to Red Lake for March Break without him.    Shayne's getting some time with his dad and Mac and I are staying with Marney, Mark and Auna.  I wasn't planning on staying the whole week but the firearms safety course I'm taking is on the weekend so we'll stay til it's over.  I'm having such relaxing days hanging out with Marney and Auna (poor Mark has to work).  It's so cool to watch Auna so that I know what's coming with Mac.  Shayne is so old that I've forgotten all about a baby's firsts.  Auna can grab things and of course puts them in her mouth.  She got a haircut and her cuteness is now even more pronounced.  Marney dug out some clothes from Anton's baby days and it's like flashbacking to see Mac wearing them... especially the Montreal sweater in the picture.  I have a photo of Shayne and Sarah wearing the same one.  How cute is that!!

My plan is to take the hunter's safety course before fall comes so that I can go hunting with Jeremy.  It would be cool to load up our freezer with moose and venison.  I don't know how I'll react to actually shooting something.... I'll find out eventually if I can stomach killing anything.  If I can't, then I figure I should become a vegetarian.

I was checking Mac out when I was bathing him and I got to noticing that his lower rib seems to stick out alot.  I tried to see if mine was the same but my flubber (as Shayne calls it) is presently obscuring any examination.  I have a doctor's appointment on the 27th so I'm make Dr. Parker look at him.  My brother Michael was diagnosed with pectus excavatus which is what I think Mac has.  I hope that he'll be okay.

I've been doing some eBay shoppping for Mac and found some toys and gizmos that I like.  I can't wait til they get to us.

Yesterday I introduced Mac to Natalie (an ole friend) and Richelle Dawn (a former student) and we chatted til it was time to go feed Mac.  I'm hoping to spend some time with Dianna, Rhonda and Corinne & Charlee before I head back to Kenora.  I haven't been able to see much of my Mom... she's got bronchitis and doesn't wanna pass anything on to the babies.  Michael's been coming over after work and he's always fun to listen to.

I could babble on more but I gotta jump in the shower while Mac's snoozing.

more later...

thoughts about our future

Jeremy and I have been talking about our options when fall rolls around and my EI claim runs out.  I don't want to go back to work with Mac being so young -- I can't imagine someone else looking after him.  I've applied for an online Masters of Education program thru the University of Western Ontario.  Even if I am accepted, I was told by NNEC that I won't be eligible for full funding because the course is part time.  To be eligible for full time funding means moving to a university town (Winnipeg and Thunder Bay are the closest)and Shayne does not want to do that.  I don't want to do that either because we'd be even further from Red Lake.  With that option being discarded we've been talking about my going back to work in the fall and Jeremy would stay at home with Mac.  Fiscally, this makes the most sense and there's no one I'd trust more to look after Mac.

We've also decided that we're gonna move outta this tiny apartment in the fall.  Ideally we'll live in this same area so that Shayne can still go to King George.

We'll see what actually happens but these are our lastest ideas.
